Therapist. Visionary. Champion of healing — where community, culture, and mental wellness converge.
The Man
Alexander J. Burks is a dynamic professional based in Central Indiana whose work sits at the intersection of mental health, cultural advocacy, and community empowerment. His multifaceted approach — combining clinical expertise with lived understanding — creates meaningful change in the lives of individuals and families.
Holding a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Mr. Burks brings both academic rigor and deep human compassion to his practice. He excels as a businessman, therapist, and psychoeducator — roles that together form a singular, unified mission.
At the heart of everything he does is a profound belief: that the healing of Black men and women is integral to the well-being of families, communities, and future generations. Through dedication and vision, he inspires resilience, growth, and positive transformation within the community.
Core Practice
Providing transformative counseling that strengthens family bonds and equips couples with the tools for lasting, healthy connection. Every relationship holds the potential to grow stronger.
A dedicated focus on the empowerment and healing of Black men and women — creating safe, culturally affirming spaces that honor identity, address trauma, and foster lasting well-being.
Translating complex mental health concepts into accessible, actionable knowledge. Empowering communities through education so that healing is not just possible — it is understood.
Flagship Organization
As CEO, Alexander leads an all-inclusive mental health platform dedicated to addressing the unique needs of minority communities — breaking down barriers, promoting cultural responsiveness, and building safe spaces for healing and growth.
The Minority Mental Health Initiative exists because cultural context is not a luxury — it is a clinical necessity. MMHI was built on the understanding that effective mental health care must speak to the full humanity of those it serves.
Under Alexander's leadership, MMHI works to dismantle systemic barriers, cultivate practitioners who lead with cultural humility, and ensure that every individual — regardless of background — has access to quality, affirming mental health support.
The platform represents a bold reimagining of what mental health services can look like when they are truly designed with minority communities in mind, not just adapted for them.
Passion Project
Beyond the clinical and the boardroom, Alexander is the Founder of SmōkHaus Premium Cigars — a passion project born from an appreciation for quality, craftsmanship, and the art of slowing down.
SmōkHaus is a reflection of Alexander's belief that excellence belongs in every facet of life — that the pursuit of the finest, whether in healing or in leisure, is always worth the commitment.
