Central Indiana
MPA, LCSW
Therapist, educator, and advocate for mental health in communities that have long gone underserved.
The Man
Alexander J. Burks is a therapist, businessman, and psychoeducator based in Central Indiana. His work sits squarely at the crossroads of mental health and community, and he brings real clinical training to spaces that don't always get that level of care.
He holds a Master of Public Administration and is licensed as a Clinical Social Worker. That combination isn't accidental. Alexander moves between therapy rooms, community platforms, and boardrooms because he believes the work has to happen at every level to mean anything.
His focus on the healing of Black men and women comes from a straightforward conviction: when they are well, families are stronger, communities function better, and the next generation starts from a different place. That's the work.
Core Practice
Relationships take real work. Alexander helps couples and families work through the hard stuff and build something that actually lasts, not just something that looks fine on the surface.
This is personal work done in spaces that feel safe. Alexander creates room for Black men and women to process, heal, and move forward without having to explain the context of their experience first.
Understanding what's happening in your mind changes everything. Alexander breaks down mental health concepts in plain language so people can apply that knowledge to their actual lives.
Flagship Organization
As CEO, Alexander built MMHI as a platform that actually centers minority communities rather than treating them as an afterthought. The focus is on access, cultural relevance, and creating environments where people feel seen from the moment they walk in.
MMHI exists because cultural context isn't optional in mental health care. It's clinical. A therapist who doesn't understand the lived experience of their client can do more harm than good, and Alexander built this platform to fix that problem.
The work under his leadership is focused on removing the barriers that have kept minority communities out of mental health spaces for generations. That means finding the right practitioners, creating the right environments, and making sure quality care is actually within reach.
MMHI isn't adapted for minority communities. It was built for them from the ground up.
Passion Project
Outside of the clinical work, Alexander is the Founder of SmōkHaus Premium Cigars, a passion project rooted in his love for quality craftsmanship and the kind of stillness that comes with slowing down.
SmōkHaus is about doing one thing well. It reflects the same standard Alexander holds in everything else he does. Whether that's a session or a smoke, the commitment to excellence doesn't change.
